India S(our)avour victory over Zimbabwe

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Anil Kumble made way for Ashish Nehra. Zimbabwe made five changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Alastair Campbell, Stuart Carlisle, Douglas Marillier, Sean Ervine and Ray Price made way for Craig Wishart, Mark Vermeulen, Andy Blignaut, Tatenda Taibu and Brian Murphy.

On winning the toss, Heath Streak, Zimbabwe’s captain, inserted India, whose openers put on 99 off 100 balls. Virender Sehwag, who faced 38 balls, scored 36. His innings included six boundaries. He was caught by Taibu. Whittall was the Guy who broke the partnership.

Dinesh Mongia faced 37 balls, scoring a dozen. Sixty-five balls later, he was caught by Douglas Hondo. Grant Flower broke the 41-run stand. Tendulkar, the player of the match, scored 81 off 91 balls. HiS(ach)innings included 10 boundaries. A couple of dot balls later, Grant dismissed him.

Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, scored 24 off 36 balls. His innings included a six. Sixty-one balls later, he was caught by Streak. Blignaut broke the 40-run stand. Rahul Dravid, who faced 55 balls, scored 43. His innings included a couple of boundaries. He was unbeaten.

Yuvraj Singh, who faced five balls, scored a run. Six balls later, he was caught by Taibu. Murphy broke the two-run stand. Mohammad Kaif faced 24 balls, scored 25. His innings included a boundary and a six. Hondo trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the 43-run stand.

Harbhajan Singh, who faced five balls, scored three. Nine balls later, he was caught by Murphy. Streak was in seventh heaven. Zaheer Khan faced eight balls, scoring 13. His innings included a couple of boundaries. He was unbeaten.

Zimbabwe conceded 17 extras. India scored 255 for the loss of seven wickets off 50 overs. Whittall bowled six overs, conceded 37 and picked up a wicket. Hondo bowled nine overs, included a maiden. He conceded 56 and picked up a wicket.

Streak bowled nine overs, conceding 46. He picked up a wicket, as did Blignaut and Murphy, whose 10 overs yielded 54 and 40, respectively. Grant, who bowled six overs, conceded 14 and picked up a couple of scalps.

An over into the chase, Vermeulen, who faced five balls and did not open his account, was caught by Dravid. Javagal Srinath broke the one-run stand. Wishart, who faced 19 balls, scored a dozen. His innings included a couple of boundaries. Forty-three balls later, Srinath broke the 23-run stand.

Andy Flower faced 54 balls, scoring 22. His innings included a boundary. Fifty balls later, Harbhajan broke the 25-run stand. 

Grant, who faced 39 balls, scored 23. His innings included a boundary. Forty-three balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan. Ganguly broke the 35-run stand. Dion Ebrahim, who faced 27 balls, scored 19. His innings included a boundary. The next ball, he was caught by Ajit Agarkar, the substitute. Ganguly broke the fifth-wicket stand.

Blignaut, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Ten balls later, he was caught by Mongia. Ganguly broke the four-run stand. Taibu faced 44 balls, scoring 29. He was unbeaten. Whittall, who faced 26 balls, scored 28. His innings included three boundaries. Thirty-nine balls later, he was caught by Khan. Sehwag broke the 37-run stand.

Streak, who faced 33 balls, scored 20. His innings included a boundary. Forty-seven balls later, he was caught by Kaif. Harbhajan broke the 36-run stand. Murphy, who faced nine balls, scored a couple. Fourteen balls later, Khan broke the five-run stand. Hondo, who faced nine balls, scored a couple. Fifteen balls later, Khan was in seventh heaven.

India conceded 13 extras. Zimbabwe, who were bundled out for 172 off 44.4 overs, lost by 83 runs. Mongia, who bowled four overs, conceded 16. He was wicketless, as was Nehra, who bowled seven overs, conceding 35.

Sehwag, who bowled three overs, conceded 14. He picked up a wicket. Khan, who bowled 7.4 overs, conceded 23. He picked up two wickets, as did Srinath, who bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 14. 

Harbhajan, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 42. He picked up two wickets. Ganguly bowled five overs, including a maiden. He conceded 22 and picked up three scalps.
