India roar, D(h)o(w)ning the Bangla(de)shers

India made four changes to their playing eleven – Parthiv Patel, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla made way for Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir and Sreesanth.

Bangladesh made four changes to the (Rub)eleven that last played the Indians – Mohammad Ashraful, Sohrawordi Shuvo, Mashrafe Mortaza and Shafiul Islam made way for Junaid Siddique, Raqibul Hasan, Abdur Razzak and Hossain.

Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh skipper, won the toss, inserting India, whose openers put on 69. Tendulkar, who faced 29 balls, scored 28. His innings included four boundaries. Sixty-five balls into the match, Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim ran him out.

Gautam Gambhir faced 39 balls, scoring as many. His innings included three boundaries. Seventy-five balls later, Mahmudullah broke the 83-run stand. Sehwag, the player of the match, faced 140 balls, scoring 175. His innings included 14 boundaries and five sixes. Al Hasan broke the 145-ball stand, which was worth 203.

Virat Kohli, who faced 83 balls, scored 100. His innings included eight boundaries and a couple of sixes. He was unbeaten. Yusuf Pathan, who faced 10 balls, scored eight. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Rahim. Shafiul broke the run-a-ball stand. Bangladesh conceded 20 extras. India scored 370 for the loss of four wickets off 50 overs.

Naeem Islam bowled seven wicketless overs, conceding 54. Razzak bowled nine wicketless overs, conceded 74. Hossain bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceding 60. Shafiul and Mahmudullah, bowled seven overs apiece, picking up a wicket each. While the former conceded 69, the latter conceded 49. Al Hasan bowled 10 overs, conceding 61. He picked up a scalp.

Imrul Kayes, who faced 29 balls, scored 34. His innings included seven boundaries. Forty-one balls into the chase, Munaf Patel broke the 56-run stand. Siddique, who faced 52 balls, scoring 37. His innings included a boundary and a six. (Dho)Ninety-eight balls later, he was stumped by Mahendra Singh, India’s skipper. Harbhajan Singh broke the 73-run stand.

Tamim faced 86 (Iq)balls, scoring 70. His innings included three boundaries and a six. Nine overs later, he was caught by Yuvraj Singh. Patel broke the 59-run stand. Al Hasan, who faced 50 balls, scored 55. His innings included five boundaries. Forty-five balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan. Pathan broke the 46-run stand.

Rahim faced 30 balls, scoring 25. His innings included a couple of boundaries. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Suresh Raina, the substitute. Zaheer Khan broke the 14-run stand. Hasan faced 28 balls, scoring as many. His innings included a six. He was unbeaten. Mahmudullah, who faced six balls, scored as many. A couple of overs after Rahim’s dismissal, Patel broke the 13-run stand.

Naeem, who faced eight balls, scored a couple. A couple of overs later, Patel trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the 14-run stand. Razzak, who faced five balls, scoring one. Nine balls later, Khan trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the four-run stand.

The ninth-wicket pair put on one. Shafiul, who faced a ball, did not get off the mark. Three balls later, Harbhajan ran him out. Hossain, who faced six balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

India conceded 24 extras. Bangladesh, who scored 283 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs, lost by 87 runs. Sreesanth, bowled five overs, conceding 53. He was wicketless, as was Yuvraj, who bowled seven overs, conceding 42.

Pathan bowled eight overs, conceding 49. He picked up a wicket, as did Harbhajan, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 41. Khan bowled 10 overs, conceding 40. He picked up two wickets. Patel, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 48. He picked up four scalps.
