India D(h)on(i)’t lose to Ireland

India made no changes to their playing eleven. Ireland made six changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Kenny Carroll, Dom Joyce, Gary Wilson, Kyle McCallan, Thinus Fourie and Roger Whelan made way for Paul Stirling, Joyce’s brother Ed, Alex Cusack, John Mooney, George Dockrell and Boyd Rankin.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss, inserting Ireland. Stirling, who faced a ball, did not open his account. Four balls into the match, Zaheer Khan broke the one-run stand. Ed, who faced five balls, scored four. In fact, his runs came by way of a boundary. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Khan broke the eight-run stand.

The third-wicket stand was worth 113. Niall O’Brien faced 78 balls, scoring 46. His innings included three boundaries. A hundred and forty-six balls later, Virat Kohli and Dhoni ran him out. Andrew White faced 10 balls, scoring five. Twenty balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Yuvraj Singh, the player of the match, was in seventh heaven. 

The fifth-wicket pair put on 18. The younger of the O’Brien brothers scored nine off 13 balls. His (Kev)innings included a boundary. Twenty-seven balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj off his own bowling.

William Porterfield, Ireland’s skipper, scored 75. His 104-ball innings included six boundaries and a six. Twenty-one balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan Singh. Yuvraj broke the 13-run stand. Mooney, who faced 17 balls, scored five. Twenty-eight balls later, Yuvraj trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the 18-run stand.

Cusack, who faced 30 balls, scored 24. His innings included three boundaries. Eleven balls, Yuvraj trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the six-run stand. Dockrell, who faced 10 balls, scored three. Twenty balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Khan broke the 17-run stand.

Trent Johnston scored 17. His 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries. Five balls later, Munaf Patel trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the six-run stand. Rankin faced a ball, scoring a run. He was unbeaten.

India conceded 18 extras. Ireland were dismissed for 207 off 47.5 overs. Yusuf Pathan, who faced seven wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 32. Chawla bowled eight overs, conceding 56. He was wicketless, as was Harbhajan, whose nine overs included a maiden. He conceded 29.

Patel, who bowled 4.5 overs, conceded 25. He picked up a wicket. Khan bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 30 and picked up three wickets. Yuvraj bowled 10 overs, conceding 31. He picked up five scalps.

India’s openers put on nine off seven balls. Virender Sehwag, who faced three balls, scored five. His innings included a boundary. He was caught by Johnston off his own bowling.

Gautam Gambhir, who faced 15 balls, scored 10. His innings included a couple of boundaries. Twenty-five balls later, he was caught by Cusack. Johnston broke the 15-run stand.

Tendulkar, who faced 56 balls, scored 38. HiS(ach)innings included four boundaries. Eighty-nine balls later, Dockrell broke the 63-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 13. Kohli, who faced 53 balls, scored 34. His innings included three boundaries. Twenty-one balls later, Dockrell and Kevin O’Brien ran him out. Yuvraj, who faced 75 balls, scored 50. His innings included three boundaries. He was unbeaten.

Ireland conceded nine extras. The Indians, who scored 210 for the loss of five wickets off 46 overs, won by five wickets with four overs to spare. Kevin O’Brien bowled a wicketless over, conceding three.

Mooney bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceding 18. Cusack, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 18. White bowled five wicketless overs, conceding 23.

Stirling and Rankin bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 45, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 34.

Johnston bowled five overs, including a maiden. He conceded 16 and picked up two wickets. Dockrell bowled 10 overs, conceding 49. He picked up two wickets.
