India (Soura)vanquish the hapless iSLanders

India made no changes to their playing eleven. Sri Lanka made a coUp(u)le of changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Chandana and Kumar Dharmasena made way for Jehan Mubarak and Prabath Nissanka.

On winning the toss, Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka’s skipper, inserted India. Virender Sehwag scored 66. His 76-ball innings included five boundaries and three sixes. He was caught by Aravinda de Silva. Muttiah Muralitharan broke the 158-ball stand, which was worth 153.

Tendulkar, who faced 120 balls, scored 97. HiS(ach)innings included seven boundaries and a six. Seventy-five balls later, he was caught by Kumar Sangakkara. De Silva broke the 71-run stand.

Sourav Ganguly, India’s captain, scored 48 off 53 balls. His innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes. Twenty-nine balls later, Chaminda Vaas broke the 24-run stand. Yuvraj Singh, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored five. Ten balls later, the eight-run partnership Vaas broken.

Mohammad Kaif, who faced 24 balls, scored 19. His innings included a boundary. Nine balls later, Muralitharan broke the 14-run stand. Rahul Dravid, who faced a dozen balls, scoring 18. His innings included a couple of boundaries. He was unbeaten.

Dinesh Mongia wasn’t in seventh heaven, because he scored just nine. However, his innings included a six. Ten balls later, he was caught by de Silva. Muralitharan broke the sixth-wicket stand, which was worth a dozen.

Harbhajan Singh, who faced five balls, was in seventh heaven, because his innings included a boundary. He was unbeaten. The Sri Lankans conceded 23 extras. India scored 292 for the loss of six wickets off 50 overs.

Jayasuriya, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 27. Russel Arnold, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 30. Nissanka, who bowled six wicketless overs, conceded 49. Dilhara Fernando bowled 10 wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 61.

Mahela Jayawardene, who faced four balls, did not open his account. Five balls later, Zaheer Khan trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the one-run stand. De Silva, who faced three balls, did not open his account. Six balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Srinath, who broke the fourth-wicket partnership, which was worth just a dozen.

Jayasuriya, who faced 19 balls, scored a dozen. His innings included a boundary. Twenty-six balls later, he was caught by Kaif. Srinath broke the 25-run partnership. Muralitharan, who faced 14 balls, scoring 16. His innings included three boundaries. Four overs after Nissanka's dismissal, he was caught by Kaif. Nehra broke the 31-run stand. India conceded 21 extras. The Sri Lankans, who were dismissed for 109 off 23 overs, lost by 183 runs.

Khan and Nehra bowled seven overs apiece. The former conceded 33 and picked up a couple of wickets, and the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 35. He picked up four wickets. Srinath bowled nine overs, including maiden. He conceded 35 and picked up four scalps.
