India D(h)on(i)’t beat South Africa

India made just one Cha(wla)nge to their playing eleven – Munaf Patel made way for Piyush. South Africa also made one change to theirs – Lonwabo Tsotsobe made way for Jacques Kallis.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s captain, chose to bat. Virender Sehwag, who faced 66 balls, scored 73. His innings included 12 boundaries. Faf du Plessis broke the 106-ball stand, which was worth 142.

Tendulkar, who faced 101 balls, scored 111. HiS(ach)innings included eight boundaries and three sixes. Twenty-two overs later, he was caught by Jean-Paul Duminy. Morne Morkel broke the 125-run stand.

Gautam Gambhir, who faced 75 balls, scored 69. His innings included seven boundaries. Three balls later, he was caught by Kallis. Dale Steyn, the player of the match, broke the one-run stand.

Yusuf Pathan, who faced a couple of balls, did not open his account. Two dot balls later, he was caught by Graeme Smith, South Africa’s captain, off the bowling of Steyn.

Yuvraj Singh, who faced nine balls, scored 12. His innings included a six. Twenty-one balls later, he was caught by Johan Botha. Kallis broke the 15-run stand. Dhoni, who faced 21 balls, scored 12. He was unbeaten.

Virat Kohli, who faced three balls, scored a run. Six balls later, he was caught by Robin Peterson, who broke the three-run stand. Harbhajan Singh, who faced nine balls, scored three. Seventeen balls later, Steyn was in seventh heaven.

Zaheer Khan, who faced three balls, did not open his account. Five balls later, he was caught by Morkel. Peterson broke the one-run stand.

Ashish Nehra, who faced three balls, did not open his account. Five balls later, he was caught by Smith. Steyn broke the two-run stand. Munaf Patel, who faced a ball, did not open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Steyn.

South Africa conceded 15 extras. India were dismissed for 296 off 48.4 overs. Duminy, who bowled three overs, conceded 29. He was wicketless, as was Botha, who bowled nine overs, conceding 39.

Du Plessis, who bowled three overs, conceded 22. He picked up a wicket. Morkel, who bowled seven overs, conceded 59. He picked up a wicket. Kallis bowled eight overs, conceding 43. He picked up a wicket.

Peterson bowled nine overs, conceding 52. He picked up a couple of wickets. Steyn, who bowled 9.4 overs, conceded 50. He picked up five scalps.

Smith, who faced 29 balls, scored 16. His innings included a couple of boundaries. Fifty-one balls into the chase, he was caught by Tendulkar. Khan broke the 41-run stand.

Hashim Amla, who faced 72 balls, scored 61. His innings included five boundaries. A hundred and thirteen balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Harbhajan broke the 86-run stand.

The third-wicket pair put on 46. Kallis faced 88 balls, scoring 69. His innings included four boundaries. Fifty balls later, Dhoni and Harbhajan ran him out.

AB de Villiers, who faced 39 balls, scored 52. His innings included six boundaries and a six. Twenty-nine balls later, he was caught by Kohli. Harbhajan broke the 50-run stand. 

Duminy, who faced 20 balls, scored 23. His innings included a couple of boundaries and a six. A couple of overs later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Harbhajan broke the 15-run stand. du Plessis, who faced 23 balls, scored 25. His innings included a six. He was unbeaten.

The sixth-wicket pair put on nine. Morne van Wyk scored five. His run-a-ball innings included a boundary. Nine balls later, Patel trapped him leg before wicket.

Botha faced 15 balls, scoring 23. His innings included a couple of boundaries and a six. Twenty-three balls later, he was caught by Suresh Raina, the substitute. Patel broke the 32-run stand.

Peterson, who scored 18, was in seventh heaven, because he was unbeaten. His innings included a couple of boundaries and a six. 

India conceded eight extras. South Africa, who scored 300 for the loss of three wickets off 49.4 overs, won by three wickets with two balls to spare. 

Pathan, who bowled four overs, conceded 20. He was wicketless, as were Yuvraj (who bowled eight overs, conceding 47) and Nehra (who bowled 8.4 overs, conceding 65).

Khan, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 43. He picked up a wicket. Patel, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 65. He picked up a couple of wickets. Harbhajan bowled nine overs, conceding 53. He picked up three scalps.
