India made one
change to their playing eleven – Pravin Amre made way for Subroto Banerjee. New
Zealand made five changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Jeff
Crowe, Richard Hadlee, Shane Thomson, Martin Snedden and Danny Morrison made
way for Rod Latham, the two Chrises (Harris and Cairns), Dipak Patel and Willie
Watson.
On winning the toss, Crowe, New
Zealand’s skipper, (Mart)inserted the Indians. Krishnamachari, who faced
(Srikkan)three balls, didn’t open his account. He was caught by Latham. Patel
broke the four-run stand. The second-wicket pair had on 18 when Ajay Jadeja,
whose 32-ball innings included a boundary, retired hurt. He scored 13.
Mohammad Azharuddin, who faced 98
