India certainly find WInning (Azh)arduous

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Vinod Kambli made way from Pravin Amre. The West Indies made four changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Philo Wallace, Carlisle Best, Malcolm Marshall and Patrick Patterson made way for Phil Simmons, Keith Arthurton, Gus Logie and Winston Benjamin.

Mohammad Azharuddin, India’s skipper, chose to bat on winning the toss. Ajay Jadeja scored 27. His 61-ball innings included a couple of boundaries. He was caught by Benjamin. Simmons broke the opening stand, which was worth 56.

The second-wicket pair put on 46. Krishnamachari Srikkanth, who faced 70 balls, scored 40. His innings included two boundaries. He was caught by Logie off the bowling of Carl Hooper. Sachin Tendulkar, who scored four off eleven balls, was caught by David Williams. The third-wicket stand, which was worth 13, was broken by Curtly Ambrose.

The Caribbean islanders’ target was revised to 195 off 46 overs. Haynes scored 16 off as many balls. His innings included three boundaries. He was caught by Manjrekar. Kapil Dev broke the 57-run stand.
