India made just
one change to their playing eleven – Vinod Kambli made way from Pravin Amre.
The West Indies made four changes to the eleven that last played the Indians –
Philo Wallace, Carlisle Best, Malcolm Marshall and Patrick Patterson made way
for Phil Simmons, Keith Arthurton, Gus Logie and Winston Benjamin.
Mohammad Azharuddin, India’s skipper,
chose to bat on winning the toss. Ajay Jadeja scored 27. His 61-ball innings included
a couple of boundaries. He was caught by Benjamin. Simmons broke the opening
stand, which was worth 56.
The second-wicket pair put on 46. Krishnamachari
