India made a couple of changeS(ubro)to their playing eleven – Ajay Jadeja and Banerjee made way for Vinod Kambli and Pravin Amre. South Africa made three changes to theirs – Jimmy Cook, Clive Rice and Craig Matthews made way for Jonty Rhodes, Hansie Cronje and Meyrick Pringle.

Rain reduced the match to a 30-overs-a-side match. Kepler Wessels, South Africa’s captain, won the toss and chose to field. Krishnamachari Srikkanth, who never represented India again, faced five balls. He didn’t open his account. He was caught by Peter Kirsten, who was adjudged the player of the match.
