India (Azh)are kayoed by SA

India made a couple of changeS(ubro)to their playing eleven – Ajay Jadeja and Banerjee made way for Vinod Kambli and Pravin Amre. South Africa made three changes to theirs – Jimmy Cook, Clive Rice and Craig Matthews made way for Jonty Rhodes, Hansie Cronje and Meyrick Pringle.

Rain reduced the match to a 30-overs-a-side match. Kepler Wessels, South Africa’s captain, won the toss and chose to field. Krishnamachari Srikkanth, who never represented India again, faced five balls. He didn’t open his account. He was caught by Peter Kirsten, who was adjudged the player of the match. Allan Donald broke the one-run stand.

Sanjay Manjrekar, who faced 53 balls, scored 28. The second-wicket stand, which was worth 78, was broken by Adrian Kuiper. Tendulkar scored 14. His run-a-ball inningS(ach)included a boundary. He was caught by Wessels. Kuiper broke the 24-run stand.

Kirsten, who faced 86 balls, scored 84. His innings included seven boundaries. Dev broke the eight-run stand. Rhodes faced three balls, scoring seven. His innings included a six. He was caught by Venkatapathy Raju. Manoj broke the six-run P(rabhak)artnership.
